2/16/24 - PROJECT PAWN PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT 9 AND THE NEW YORK YANKEES TO PRESENT THE INAUGURAL“THE BX INVITATIONAL“ CHESS TOURNAMENT TO SHOWCASE LOCAL CHESS PLAYERS ACROSS THE BRONX.

The “BX Invitational” tournament was created to display the brilliant students within the borough of the Bronx, through the game of chess. With academics being the forefront, chess is a game that compliments and improves math, science, and problem-solving skills. The tournament magnifies the power of community, by simply scratching the surface of communal impact when a small business, the Department of Education, and a monumental organization collaborate.

Competitive chess is traditionally a tournament setting where players compete based on age and ranking. In leu of other sports, there should be an exhibition that highlights the talent of gifted chess players. This experience will create a memorable and fulfilling time for players to feel acknowledged and celebrated.

On February 5th, Project Pawn LLC curated “The Project Pawn Invitational” to highlight and display the excellence of chess competitors within the tristate.

This incredible event was located at the Gentlemen’s Factory in Brooklyn NY, and featured marquee players like Brewington Hardaway (K8 National Champion) and Tanitoluwa “Tani” Adewumi (FIDE Master) and other nationally ranked players within the Tri-State.

This experience alluded prestigious chess matches, a diverse community, high level conversations, and entertainment.

Minds Matter.

While using chess as a metaphor for life, our goal is to help the youth strategically plan their future; enabling them to start with the end result in mind and work backwards to their current position. Ultimately, mastering the “game of life” and reaching their personal milestones.

Their attention gravitates to their focus, teach them focus and show the youth how powerful their minds are. -Abdul Sulaiman
